So what is a pastie?

Not only is it Friday, making it a good day by default, but Matt and I got to have lunch together. Yes, we live together, but I love to see him as much as possible! It reminds me of Liz of The Lemon Bowl when she states she is, “dating her husband” whenever they have a nice date. It reminds me that no matter the length of the relationship or if a couple is married, it’s always nice to do something special. 🙂

We had no idea that such a gem was right under our noses! Gramma’s Pasties is located in the shopping center right where one of my clinics is located. A pastie is an amazing meat and/or vegetable filled pastry with a tender, flaky crust that is thought to have been created in England. {per the history on their website}

I walked down and placed our order ahead of time while I waited for Matt to join me. We each ordered a pastie along with a side of homemade coleslaw. The Eggplant with Pesto and Sundried Tomatoes for me and The Grampa for Matt.

There are three sections of pasties on the menu, going from more simple flavors to complex. One of the owners explained to me that each section is named from either her or her husband’s grandmothers depending on their complexities as ladies. How cute!

We couldn’t resist ordering several to take home and freeze for those days that are busy and don’t leave much time for food preparation. We were so pleased and do look forward to going back!
